Why Alkaline Drinking Water is Necessary For You
WATER The Facts

Electrolyte Balance
:Water is very important in maintaining electrolyte balance within our bodies. Electrolytes are charged ions (such as Na+ or Cl-) which must be kept at certain levels to maintain the proper amount of water in our cells. Electrolytes transmit all sorts of information to our brains in the form of nerve impulses and are important in muscular activity as well. To maintain electrolytes at the proper level in our cells, water flows in and out of the cell to make sure that these ions remain in balance.
Which Water
Distillation is the process in which water is boiled, evaporated and the vapour condensed. Most purified or reverse osmosis water if it is produced properly is free of dissolved minerals, and because of this, has the special property of being able to actively absorb toxic substances from the body and eliminate them. Studies validate the benefits of drinking purified water when one is seeking to cleanse or detoxify the system for short periods of time (a few weeks at a time). Fasting using purified water can be dangerous because of the rapid loss of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride) and trace minerals like magnesium, deficiencies of whic
h can cause heart beat irregularities and high blood pressure. Cooking foods in regular purified water pulls the minerals out of them and lowers their nutrient value. This is not a problem if you save the water and use for sauces, gravies or soups.Most purified water is an active absorber and when it comes into contact with air, it absorbs carbon dioxide, making it acidic. Notably, carbon dioxide from the air is rapidly absorbed, making the water acidic (forms carbonic acid) and therefore even more aggressive.
Many metals are dissolved by regular purified water. In nature as ground
water or rainwater flows over and percolates through soil and underground rock
formations containing calcitic limestone (CaCO3) or dolomitic
limestone [CaMg(CO3)2], the acidity produced by CO2
in the water will dissolve the limestone and form calcium and magnesium
bicarbonate salts with the result that the water has increased alkalinity and
pH.
A growing number of health care practitioners and scientists from around the world have been advocating the theory that aging and disease is the direct result of the accumulation of acid waste products in the body. There is a great deal of scientific documentation that supports such a theory. A poor diet may be partially to blame for the waste accumulation. All Medications, Meats, sugar, white flour products, fried foods, soft drinks, processed foods, alcohol, dairy products and junk foods cause the body to become more acidic. Stress, whether mental or physical can also lead to acid deposits in the body.
In addition to what was mentioned above the longer one drinks regular purified water, the more likely the development of mineral deficiencies and an acid state. Regular purified water tends to be acidic and can only be recommended as a way of drawing poisons out of the body. Once this is accomplished, the continued drinking of regular purified water is a bad idea. The ideal water for the human body should be slightly alkaline and this requires the presence of minerals like calcium and magnesium.
Our body’s water content reduces as our acidity increases. We become wrinkled like a dried prune until, from 90% water as an unborn child, we are reduced to less than 50%.
Dr Theodore Baroody, author of Alkalize or Die goes even further. He believes we have lost the basic ability to drink properly in response to thirst.
We reach for a cola instead of water, and we drink acidic water or chemically manipulated water before we will drink the real thing; the water we once had not so long ago (alkaline water).
We are all well aware of the need for pure water, especially in cities. However pure water is not necessarily alkalizing water. Even rainwater today falls through an acidic atmosphere and becomes acidic before it touches earth.
This is the reason why the Australian Water Safety guidelines insisted that their drinking water is neutral (pH 7) or above. Acidic water is bad for our bodies and so most water authorities are compelled to add chemicals to tip the scales towards a more beneficial alkaline balance.
As consumers, many of us have purchased water filters. However our purified water may be even more acidic after the filter removes the added lime, and so while we now have clean water, we are also getting our most fundamental resource in a form that is far from healthy, and actually contributes to our aging process. Body alkalinity is attainable but we need to acknowledge that our rapid technological advances have robbed us of some of our ability to get what we need from our food and our water. Our environment may have changed, but our body’s needs have not.
Positive Steps to An Alkaline Body
To assist in removing and balancing the harmful effects of body acid, get in the habit of drinking at least two litres of the highest quality water you can. Drink water that is mildly alkaline. Alkaline water with a pH of 7.4-8.7 is recommended to help balance the acidic nature of our diets, lifestyles and their harmful affects.
Most bottled waters and municipal tap water sources have acidic pH of around 6.5 - 6.0. Slowly replace your other beverages, especially the acidic ones, with alkaline water. Colas, coffee, tea, alcoholic beverages, milk and isotonic sports drinks are mostly acidic and do not qualify as water. They also act as a diuretic, which means they pull water out of the cells and body. Therefore you need to consume even more water than normal to counteract their affects.
So, get in the habit of drinking alkaline water throughout the day, to help hydrate and energize your body and brain. Drink extra when you will need it because of hot or dry weather, exercise, alcohol, cola and caffeine consumption, illness, air travel and heavy meals.
Through alkaline nutrition and alkaline hydration, adequate exercise, good digestion (chewing your food), daily elimination and sensible food combining, tissues and organs become alkaline and calcium supplementation is then used to build bones instead of neutralize acidity. Bones are able to maintain calcium levels and you will have strong teeth and skeleton. An alkaline body creates better digestion, and builds a defence against chronic illnesses. You will have better lymph flow, fewer colds and flu and adequate elimination.
Many people often say they don’t like drinking water. What people normally mean when they say they don’t like water is that they don’t like the taste of water.
